Jay Cutler Begins Jail Sentence After DUI Plea
Jay Cutler is currently serving a four-day jail sentence in Franklin, Tennessee, having pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor DUI charge.
The former NFL quarterback, who played for the Broncos, Bears, and Dolphins, was booked into Williamson County Jail on Monday as part of a deal to resolve his DUI case with prosecutors.
In return for a lighter penalty, the prosecutors dropped the weapons charges he was facing.
Cutler, previously married to Christine Cavalari from 2013 to 2020, was involved in a car accident back in October 2024. At that time, police noted signs that he might have been under the influence.
After hitting another vehicle, he declined to take a sobriety test, claiming difficulties with his speech.
Law enforcement later collected blood samples from him at a nearby hospital, and they discovered two firearms in his car.
The charges Cutler originally faced included driving under the influence, reckless driving, violating consent regulations, and illegally having firearms while intoxicated.
After pleading guilty, he received a four-day jail term.
In addition to jail time, Cutler must complete a DUI safety course, have his driver’s license suspended for a year, and pay a $350 fine, which will result in one year of unsupervised probation.
Other charges were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
As a father of three with his ex-wife, Cutler has two children: 13-year-old Jackson and 9-year-old Saylor. The couple divorced in April 2020 after a seven-year marriage.
Since the split, there has been public tension between the two, with Cutler recently criticizing Cavalari for comments about their financial arrangements during the marriage.
He expressed his frustration on the “Go Out” podcast, saying it was reckless and inaccurate to suggest that no assets were split during the divorce.
Cutler, who earned about $128 million over his 12-year NFL career, insisted he didn’t lose any money in the divorce and that he had legal documentation to prove it.
During his time in the NFL, he amassed significant stats, throwing for over 35,000 yards and achieving 227 touchdown passes.
Initially starting his career with the Broncos, Cutler continued with the Bears and Dolphins before retiring in 2018.
