Macron's claim that Candace Owens reinforced falsehoods about gender for profit and to enhance her public image

Candice Owens, an American conservative commentator, faces accusations from French President Macron and his wife, Brigitte, alleging that she is attempting to boost her online profile and income through continuous public speculation about Mrs. Macron’s sexuality.

According to reports, the couple updated their legal actions in July, detailing how Owens has intensified her claims. Their legal team stated:

Since initiating this lawsuit, Ms. Owens has only amplified our case by intentionally escalating the false narratives and harm against Macron.

She uses her podcasts to spread misinformation about Macron, mock him, and market products, while gathering donations based on her “report.”

Details reveal that 36-year-old Owens recently kicked off a new season of her series “Become a Bridget,” which began last year. The amended lawsuit notably mentions the suggestion that Macron is somehow involved in derailing Owens’ investigation into the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

The lawyer noted that Owens’ following has surged to 7.2 million on X and over 5.2 million subscribers on YouTube. Her podcast has become widely popular, discussing her “research” on Macron.

President Macron and his wife have initiated a 218-page defamation lawsuit against Owens through a Delaware court, claiming substantial reputational damage from her repeated assertions, which they label as false.

They characterize Owens’ claims as quirky, far-fetched fiction stemming from a podcast that draws millions of listeners.

Owens has responded to the lawsuit by stating that Macron is engaged in a “public relations strategy.” She has declared her intent to fight the case vigorously, boldly stating, “I will meet you in court.”

Mrs. Macron has promised to present photographic evidence to affirm her identity in court.

This isn’t the first instance where Macron has taken legal action to counter rumors concerning Brigitte’s gender. In 2022, she lodged a formal complaint against freelance journalist Natacha Ray and self-identified “medium” Amandin Roy in France.

Both individuals were found guilty in 2023 by the French Court of Honor Lib Loss and were subsequently fined $2,600.
