Troy Aikman Comments on Penalty Calls During Broncos vs. Bengals Game
Troy Aikman shared his candid thoughts during the recent Denver Broncos game on ESPN’s “Monday Night Football”, and let’s just say, he didn’t hold back.
Initially, the Bengals seemed to have the upper hand, kicking off with a few field goals. However, the game quickly shifted when the Broncos surged ahead to a 21-3 lead by halftime.
As the game progressed, it became increasingly dominated by penalty calls. Over and over, yellow flags marred the flow of play, leaving viewers frustrated.
Just past the midway point in the third quarter, a notable moment occurred when Broncos offensive lineman Alex Palchevsky was penalized for an illegal blindside block, marking the game’s 22nd flag.
While ESPN’s rules expert, Russell Yuke, supported the call, Aikman expressed his growing impatience. “I’m not going to keep my mouth closed,” he remarked sarcastically to his broadcast partner Joe Buck.
He continued, “It’s a good phone. It’s not just a necessary phone… nothing brings a broadcast to a screeching halt like these yellow flags.”
The duo humorously speculated whether external factors, like the moon cycle, could somehow be influencing the chaos unfolding on the field.
When another penalty was called for an ineligible player on the next play involving Denver Center Luke Wattenberg, the situation only seemed to amplify Aikman’s frustrations.
Reflecting on the evening’s events, Aikman stated, “The product isn’t very good. To be honest… I mean, this is ridiculous.” It seems that even those who have dedicated their lives to football are continually surprised by the evolving dynamics of the game.
