Oval Office Update
President Donald Trump announced to his daily callers that his administration has finalized a contract with Harvard University after a lengthy standoff with Ivy League institutions.
During a conversation on Tuesday, Trump mentioned that Education Secretary Linda McMahon was in charge of wrapping up the agreement, noting that only “putting out the paper” was left to do. He indicated that Harvard is expected to invest around $500 million to establish a trade school focused on artificial intelligence and automotive manufacturing.
“They will be teaching people how to do AI and many other things, including engine work and more,” he stated.
Reflecting on his own educational experiences, Trump shared, “I remember when I went to school, there were students who weren’t exactly top performers, but I was able to blindfold the motor and engine and put it back in. That was about my limit, though.”
Previously, the Trump administration reached out to Harvard in April with a list of requests that included an audit of anti-Israel protests occurring on campus, alongside scrutiny of the admissions protocol.
After Harvard turned down these requests, the administration began to freeze federal funds to the university. In a twist, Harvard secured $8.7 billion in federal funds while under investigation for allegations of anti-Semitism.
Moreover, Trump’s Department of Education informed the agency’s accredited institutions in June about the alleged failure to address anti-Semitism on campus.
“By establishing a trade school, specifically a large series of trade schools run by Harvard, we’re nearing a significant decision. We’re not quite there yet,” Trump elaborated. “This is a substantial investment in vocational schools created by sharp minds, with their errors set aside.”
