Mets fans upset Yankees announcer Michael Kay

Michael Kay Comments on Mets’ Struggles

This season started with plenty of optimism surrounding the New York Mets. But after finishing with a 5-5 record in their last ten games and a lackluster September, the team ultimately missed the playoffs.

In the midst of this disappointment, Michael Kay, the New York Yankees’ play-by-play announcer, shared his thoughts on the air regarding Mets fans and their reactions throughout the season.

Kay was quite vocal about how some fans behaved during both the offseason and regular season, suggesting that their reactions often seemed extreme.

“Honestly, every Mets fan I’ve met—my heart goes out to you,” he said, without holding back. “But there’s this furious group of Mets fans who seem really angry about everything. I mean, what’s going on there?”

He continued with a smirk, “I can’t say this without feeling a bit of joy. You know, you’ve put me through the wringer with those Soto tweets, and now look where you are—struggling to even beat the Cincinnati Reds with your big budget.”

Kay clarified he wasn’t condemning all Mets fans; rather, he took aim at those who were particularly harsh toward the Yankees after the team didn’t secure player Juan Soto.

During a Subway Series matchup, Kay remarked that Soto appeared “grumpy” in the clubhouse, causing some backlash for sharing this insight.

“I have to poke fun at my Mets friends. I mean, how do they not feel it today?” he joked. “This team drives you insane! It’s those who’ve been sending me messages like, ‘Juan Soto looks happy!’ that I find pretty amusing.”

While he noted that this would mark the start of a new chapter for the Yankees, he also pointed out how some fans relished the Mets’ struggles throughout the season. He added, “You were probably thrilled watching them go 20-31. I just don’t see how they can make it into the playoffs now.”

Soto wrapped up his first season in New York with impressive stats—43 home runs, 105 RBIs, and 38 stolen bases.

The Mets’ front office is now strategizing how to improve for the next season, while the Yankees are preparing for an upcoming Wild Card Playoff Series against the Boston Red Sox.
