A 13-year-old from Arizona reportedly drove a stolen pickup truck while intoxicated, resulting in a crash on the highway.
The teen, accompanied by two 11-year-old passengers, sped down Interstate-40 in Flagstaff, reaching speeds over 100 miles per hour. This reckless joyride ended around 1 am Tuesday when the truck collided with guardrails, spun out of control, and ultimately struck a tree. As per the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
Authorities revealed that the minor’s blood alcohol content registered at .183, which is more than double the legal limit for driving.
The accident left the truck, a Chevrolet Silverado, severely damaged. It rolled and came to rest approximately 50 feet from the initial impact.
Both children sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
“It’s a relief the kids are okay, but this incident could have ended far worse,” an officer stated in a Facebook update.
“Underage drinking and driving is no joke. It’s crucial to discuss the dangers of such behavior with your kids,” they added.
Currently, it’s unclear if any charges will be brought against the young driver.
In another incident, a careless 15-year-old was arrested in Georgia for allegedly racing his mother’s BMW at 111 mph on a highway, claiming he wanted to test its speed.
The teen, who only had a learner’s permit, was navigating Interstate-285 before being pulled over. According to Dunwoody Police.
The mother reportedly told police she had allowed her son to drive the luxury vehicle, which raises some questions about oversight.
The case involving the Georgia teenager is set to be handled by the Dekalb Juvenile Court.
