A Maryland mother recounted a harrowing experience during her vacation at a resort in Africa, claiming she was attacked, drugged, and abducted.
Jameca Ivy, 31, traveled to Tunisia with her best friend, Queen, and they were staying at the Penthouse Suites Hotel. After a night spent at a club, Ivy went to the hotel lobby but ended up meeting a stranger who, she later noted, seemed to be looking for tissue.
“I woke up in a situation I never imagined I’d be in. Even now, I’m still trying to process the trauma and figure out what really happened,” Ivy explained on a fundraising page she set up.
Recalling the moment of the attack, Ivy mentioned that she had little memory of the events, but believed she was drugged. “I just don’t know what unfolded,” she said. “I was just trying to fight for my life.” At one point, she remembered panicking while attempting to escape from a car.
She described how a male driver had grabbed her, covering her mouth and hitting her, making it difficult for her to call for help.
“This guy was really strong. He punched me in the face, forehead, and eyes. It was terrifying,” Ivy stated.
Meanwhile, Queen returned to the hotel, desperately seeking assistance for her friend, but the staff didn’t provide any support, claiming Ivy had simply “made a friend.” This left Queen perplexed, especially given the language barrier.
In frustration, she told a reporter, “How can she make friends if she doesn’t even speak the language?” and felt exasperated that no one came to help.
She recorded a video that captured hotel staff dismissing her concerns, stating, “This didn’t happen here. I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Miraculously, Ivy managed to return to the hotel, though she bore visible injuries, including bruises and two black eyes.
Photos shared on her fundraising page showed additional bruising on her feet from the incident.
“I’m still dealing with the fallout from that night and trying to ascertain what happened,” she mentioned as she sought to raise $5,000 for potential legal action.
“No one should go through this. Your assistance will enable me to access legal support and mental health care, which I desperately need to heal and seek accountability,” she wrote.
Ivy has also filed a report with the U.S. Embassy in Tunis, connecting with officials and local police about the assault.
“Since that night, I’ve been doing everything I can to stay safe and start the long journey toward recovery. I reported the incident to local authorities and am considering legal action, but I require assistance to cover the costs and immediate support to aid my healing,” Ivy shared.
