Browns Adjust Quarterback Situation Ahead of Vikings Game
The Cleveland Browns are shaking things up at quarterback as they approach their fifth game against the Minnesota Vikings. Rookie Dillon Gabriel has been named the starter, stepping in for Joe Flacco.
Gabriel was picked in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft and had an impressive record during his time at Oregon, tying the FBS all-time mark for touchdown passes. He competed against Kenny Pickett and Shedeur Sanders during training camp and secured a backup position.
This season, Gabriel has already seen some field time. In the 10 snaps he’s taken, he’s completed 3 out of 4 passes, scoring a touchdown and accumulating 19 passing yards.
On the other hand, Flacco has struggled recently. He played the last two games without scoring a touchdown and has thrown three interceptions during that stretch. Over the first four weeks of the season, he racked up 815 passing yards, with two touchdowns and six interceptions.
Meanwhile, Shedeur Sanders appears to be third on the Browns’ depth chart. Drafted in the fifth round, he recently made headlines with a comment during an interview, expressing confidence about his abilities. “If you see quarterback play in the league now, I know I can do better than that,” he stated. He emphasized being prepared and ready to play whenever needed, claiming that it’s not entirely up to him whether he gets on the field.
Sanders seems keen to maintain a strong mindset despite his current situation in the depth chart, acknowledging the unpredictability of the game. His future with the team remains uncertain.
The Browns are set to play the Vikings this Sunday in London.
