The Governor’s and Mayor’s Councils from America’s First Policy Institute have called for an end to the Democratic stalemate, with letters signed by 32 leaders from various states.
In a letter to the Senate, the Governor’s Council urged quick passage of a clean, short-term funding extension. However, this proposal was rejected by Democrats, leading to the government shutdown. They emphasized that “our troops, first responders, and firefighters should never risk their pay.”
“Elderly citizens and veterans shouldn’t have to worry about their benefits being interrupted. Families shouldn’t face uncertainty regarding food assistance because Congress is failing its responsibilities. These outcomes are immediate, realistic, and completely avoidable,” stated the letter.
Moreover, the correspondence pointed out that Americans are against the Senate yielding to Democratic demands.
“Make no mistake. Americans do not want a $1.5 trillion partisan wish list that aids illegal immigration while slashing critical rural healthcare funding,” the letter continues. “What they want is stability, security, and responsible governance.”
See – There are no options! Trump asserts that Democrats will be held accountable if the shutdown harms Americans:
“Overall, the Governor’s Council is advocating for ‘a clean, short-term extension,’ viewing it as ‘the only path ahead.’
“It safeguards service members and veterans, ensures critical programs continue, and prevents unnecessary disruptions in the state’s economy and communities. Shutting down the government weakens America and erodes trust in our systems,” they noted in response to proposed budget expansions.
Similarly, the Mayor’s Council sent letters to the Senate urging the passage of a clean GOP funding bill.
“The House is already moving forward with a clean, bipartisan extension. The Senate backed this very approach just six months ago. There’s no valid reason to reject the same sensible solution now,” according to a letter signed by numerous mayors.
Watch – Democrats lacked a solid plan to prevent the shutdown:
“Americans don’t want a bloated partisan budget that funds benefits for illegal immigrants while cutting essential community investments. They seek responsible leadership, stability, and accountability,” the Mayor’s Council emphasized, reiterating their call for a “clean, short-term extension.”
“Mayors understand how detrimental uncertainty can be for small businesses, public safety, and government trust. We urge the Senate to take action immediately. The American populace deserves leaders who put America first and keep the government functioning.”
The government officially closed at midnight Eastern time after 44 Democrats voted to block spending plans in the House just hours before the deadline.
Recent polling from the New York Times/Siena indicates that Democrats may be losing public support, as most registered voters think Democrats shouldn’t force a government shutdown over their demands.
