Vice President JD Vance Addresses Democratic Claims at Press Conference
During a press conference on Wednesday, Vice President JD Vance tackled what he described as misleading narratives coming from the left regarding recent government shutdowns.
Matthew Boyle, Washington Director for Breitbart News, prompted Vance to address two prominent claims being circulated by Democratic leaders following the shutdown. He noted, “We see top Democrats, including Kamala Harris and Chuck Schumer, asserting that this shutdown is due to Trump and the Republicans.” He also mentioned a second point, saying, “They insist they are against providing health care to illegal immigrants. Can you respond to these Democratic assertions?”
Vance asserted that the shutdown was indeed a result of Democratic actions, urging the public to review the voting records in both the House and Senate, as well as President Donald Trump’s position on the matter. “Almost every House Republican supported reopening the government, and likewise, many Senate Republicans did so too, along with a handful of more moderate Democrats,” he emphasized.
“You have your disagreements on various topics, but you can’t ignore the fact that Republicans favored opening the government. The President is prepared to sign off on it, so we should come together to make that happen,” Vance added before shifting focus to the healthcare claims made by Democrats.
He stated, “The facts are clear. I think it was George Stephanopoulos during my interview with Mike Johnson who spread unsubstantiated claims – really just Democratic rhetoric.” Vance elaborated, “If you’re a U.S. citizen visiting hospitals lately, you may have noticed increased wait times, often due to illegal immigrants who frequently don’t speak English clogging up emergency rooms.”
He attributed these issues to the Biden administration’s reversal of Trump-era policies, claiming it has hindered medical aid for undocumented immigrants, stressing that, “We’ve stopped the influx of funds for illegal foreigners.” Vance also contended, “The administration has granted asylum to individuals who never applied for it in the first place.”
In summary, he expressed frustration with the Democratic stance, arguing that it’s false for them to assert they’re not offering medical benefits to illegal aliens. He suggested that the legislation they present clearly indicates who would benefit from such provisions, asserting that government support should prioritize American citizens.
“The Democrats appear willing to shut everything down for the sake of helping illegal immigrants. The contrast couldn’t be more stark,” he concluded. This was echoed by Representative Maxine Waters (D-CA), who publicly stated that Democrats are indeed seeking to assist everyone, including illegal aliens, during a session on Tuesday.
