Trump hits lowest approval rating so far in Marquette Law School poll

President Trump’s approval rating has hit a new low, as revealed in the latest poll from Marquette University Law School. Released on Wednesday, the survey reports that only 43% of respondents approved of Trump’s performance, while 57% disapproved.

This 43% approval mark is the lowest recorded for Trump this year. At the beginning of his second term, his approval stood at 48%. Prior to this recent decline, it had dropped to 46% in March and 45% in July.

The gap between Trump’s approval and disapproval ratings is now at -14%, reflecting a significant shift from earlier this year when 52% disapproved of him. Now, that number has increased to 57%.

Support for Trump has waned among Republicans, independents, and Democrats alike. Among Republicans, his approval has decreased from 89% in January to 81% in September. For independents, those approving him dropped from 37% to 27% during the same timeframe. Meanwhile, Democratic approval, which was already low at 9% in January, fell further to 8% in September.

Interestingly, Trump still has over 50% approval on border security, a topic that has historically been a strong suit for him. In a response to Charlie Kirk’s assassination on September 10, 55% of respondents approved of his handling of border security, while 53% approved of his reaction to Kirk’s death. However, a sizable portion disapproves of his handling of other issues; for instance, 72% criticized his response to new information about convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, and 71% disapproved of his management of inflation.

Trump’s handling of international conflicts has not fared much better, with 67% disapproving of his approach to the Russia-Ukraine situation and 66% disapproving of his management of the Israeli-Hamas conflict.

The findings from Marquette reflect similar results seen in a recent New York Times/Siena University poll. Moreover, a YouGov/Economist poll published the next day projected Trump’s approval would plummet even further to 39%, with 57% disapproving of his administration.

The Marquette Survey was conducted between September 12 and 15, gathering responses from 1,043 participants, with a margin of error of 3.3 percentage points.
