Yankees Tie Series Thanks to Cruz’s Performance
In what was a pivotal moment, Fernando Cruz made an impressive entrance. The New York Yankees were tied with the Boston Red Sox, 3-3, at the top of the seventh when Cruz stepped onto the mound with the bases empty.
He managed to keep the game tied, preventing any Red Sox runners from scoring. That crucial performance set the stage for the Yankees to take charge the following inning, leading them to a decisive game three in the Bronx this Thursday night.
This season, Cruz came in with a 4.52 ERA but improved it to 3.56, proving to be a reliable relief pitcher for the Yankees. After allowing a base hit to Trevor Story, Cruz found himself in a tight spot but celebrated as he made an impressive play. He credited his faith for helping him navigate through the tension. “I have a powerful giant. His name is Jesus Christ. I will save him first,” Cruz stated confidently.
“It’s time to compete. Just grab the ball and let’s do this,” he added, full of determination.
Cruz’s quick reflexes came into play when he caught a bunt attempt just before Nick Sogard was out. Jazz Chisholm Jr. contributed by saving a run, while Story ended the frame with a flyout to center field.
Austin Wells ultimately sealed the win with a single, scoring Chisholm after he had worked to get in position with a 3-2 count. The Yankees and Red Sox have a long history, with the Yankees having won two previous Wild Card Games while Boston claimed the last two they played against each other.
Looking ahead, the atmosphere is sure to be electric as both teams prepare for the next matchup this Thursday at 8:08 PM ET.
