College student insults ChatGPT following claims of widespread vandalism: 'go f**k yourself'

University Student Allegedly Confesses to Vandalism via Chatbot

A sophomore at Missouri State University, Ryan Schafer, is reportedly facing charges for vandalizing 17 vehicles in a university parking lot. This incident took place early on August 28th.

The Springfield Police Department has accused Schafer of various forms of damage, including smashed windshields, damaged wipers, dented hoods, and broken side mirrors. Curious enough, shortly after the incident, Schafer allegedly confided in a chatbot about what he had done.

Schaefer, who allowed police to search his phone, is said to have sent a message to the ChatGPT app asking, “How f**ked am I bro?” just ten minutes following the act. This communication contained numerous spelling errors and will be presented in its original form.

The chatbot replied with warnings about potential consequences, referencing “Windzhaileds or Random Cars vreaking.” In a somewhat chaotic exchange, Schafer inquired whether there were cameras in the parking lot, admitting, “I was challenging it, but I was smashing the random FS cars…,” indicating he knew he was doing something wrong yet seemed detached from the severity of it.

As the conversation progressed, the police observed that it seemed to lead Schafer into a spiral of further reckless dialogue.

Interestingly, the chatbot expressed concern, advising Schafer to refrain from discussing harm to people and property. In a rather hostile exchange, he made statements suggesting a lack of fear regarding police detection.

Witnesses have identified Schafer, and some claimed he had boasted about the vandalism weeks prior. However, he has denied any involvement in the incidents. Authorities later gathered his shoes and iPhone as part of the investigation.

Schafer has been placed in jail with a bond set at $7,500. Once released, he will be prohibited from entering places where alcohol is served and will undergo random drug and alcohol testing. Additionally, it appears he will be monitored with a GPS device.
