Portland, Oregon – Following President Trump’s announcement regarding the deployment of the Oregon National Guard to Portland, local advocacy groups are organizing an “emergency” nude bike ride as a form of protest.
These groups, who are offshoots of the original Portland World Naked Bike Ride, stated on social media that they plan to ride in response to what they see as the militarization of their city. They emphasized that they are working out the details for this event.
The goal of this ride goes beyond just responding to the National Guard deployment; it also aims to highlight issues like body positivity and reducing fossil fuel reliance—core themes of the traditional World Naked Bike Ride.
After the original organizers stepped back from holding the event in 2024, different factions emerged, leading to two separate rides. The upcoming protest will be organized by a group called The Offshoot Group.
Interestingly, the original organizers aren’t entirely opposed to the plans for this protest ride. They expressed solidarity with the idea in a statement, highlighting the importance of community and activism through cycling.
Plans for these upcoming events come after Trump publicly reaffirmed his commitment to sending troops to Portland, labeling it a mission needing “full power” to address issues regarding federal facilities and certain groups opposing them.
Pentagon officials subsequently ordered 200 National Guard members to prepare for federal service in light of these developments.
During a recent press conference, Oregon Governor Tina Kotek indicated that the Portland Police would oversee the protest while adhering to Sanctuary City laws, stating that they wouldn’t assist with federal immigration enforcement, voicing concerns over Trump’s approach as “illegal” and “unjust.”
The Oregon Military Bureau shared that the troops are anticipated to arrive, although there may be some delays in the timeline.
In light of these events, Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield filed a temporary restraining order against the federal troop deployment, arguing that it is unjustified and could pose significant risks to residents.
