Progressive Groups Push for Continued Fight Amid Government Shutdown
Activist organizations with progressive leanings are encouraging Democrats to persist in their confrontation with Republicans in Congress, especially during the current fundraising disputes and impending government shutdown.
Grassroots groups, such as the Working Families Party, MoveOn, and the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, are involved in what’s being called a fundraising blockade. This effort aims to mobilize an activist network in support of the Democrats, as reported recently.
Documents obtained indicate that these groups are calling on Democrats to continue leveraging public pressure against Republicans regarding the potential shutdown.
One part of their messaging reflects a determination to push forward, expressing ideas like, “We urge you to continue holding your ground.” This approach shows their intention to keep that momentum, particularly surrounding issues of healthcare and funding.
For instance, another script from MoveOn commends senators for standing firm on healthcare-related issues while putting pressure on GOP lawmakers to improve their efforts for affordable healthcare, saying, “Your senator voted to support affordable healthcare. Tell them to keep fighting.”
The Working Families Party, founded in 1998, aims to recruit and train candidates to advocate for working-class interests. They highlight the widening wealth gap and advocate against the influence of wealthy individuals in politics.
Similarly, MoveOn, also established in 1998, seeks to mobilize voters to promote a progressive future. They have claimed to be a key part of resistance movements since Donald Trump’s election, advocating for values centered on equality, sustainability, and justice.
The Progressive Change Campaign Committee has made a considerable impact as well, raising significant grassroots funding and training candidates who align with progressive ideals.
Despite these efforts, representatives from the Working Families Party, MoveOn, and the Progressive Change Campaign Committee have not yet provided comments regarding their ongoing initiatives or the shutdown situation.
