Justice Department Investigates Portland Arrest of Conservative Journalist

The Trump administration has confirmed that the Justice Department is looking into the arrest of conservative journalists during ongoing anti-ICE protests in Portland. This investigation hints that the city could face consequences, potentially financial.

For several months now, leftist protesters have been demonstrating outside of Portland’s ICE facility. Tensions escalated Thursday when conservative journalist Nick Thorto was arrested amidst the chaos.

During a media briefing on Friday, spokesperson Carolyn Leavitt remarked, “We don’t fund states that permit disorder. Law and order will prevail, and President Trump asserts that.” She expressed a strong intent to end what she referred to as the “radical left terror reign in Portland.”

Leavitt mentioned that Antifa militants have been targeting the ICE office in South Portland since mid-June, stating, “This isn’t a peaceful protest. It’s been a leftist disorder that has plagued this city for years. Police officers have suffered, citizens live in fear, and property has been damaged.”

She went on to describe the militants as “radical left-wing madmen” using stop signs to attack the facility. Leavitt criticized local officials for not taking stronger actions against the violent mobs, pointing out that instead of arresting those causing mayhem, journalists trying to cover the events were apprehended.

In light of the arrest, Leavitt noted that the Justice Department is engaging with concerned parties to launch a thorough investigation. “This incident reflects a disturbing trend in Portland, where these leftist groups seem to think they can dictate who can live and visit here. It’s not their city; it’s an American city,” she asserted.

Leavitt mentioned that President Trump has been informed about the possibility of cutting federal funds to Portland due to the lawlessness observed. “We don’t fund states that allow disorder,” she reiterated.

She added that more resources, especially related to ICE and border security, will be funneled into Portland.
