Angel Reese Responds to Critics of Her Style

WNBA player Angel Reese recently addressed fans who criticized her for not taking basketball seriously due to her glamorous appearance. Since launching her WNBA career in 2024, Reese has become known for her bold makeup and stylish outfits. She discussed these topics in a recent episode of her podcast, “Unapologetically Angel.”

“I just want to clarify something: being attractive doesn’t mean I’m not serious about basketball. We really need to let go of that idea,” Reese stated, expressing her frustration candidly.

She also mentioned that she won’t feel obligated to share basketball-related content all the time next season. “It’s about knowing when to train and when to take a break,” she noted.

Previously, on her podcast in March, Reese and fellow player Dehonai Carrington discussed how their appearances are perceived. Reese reflected on the difficulty of being criticized for caring about her looks, saying, “I find it really tough when people claim, ‘Oh, she’s just focused on her makeup and her clothing.'”

Carrington, on her part, has voiced indifference toward comments about her personal style but expressed annoyance at questions regarding her hair color. “I dislike when people ask why I have blonde hair, even with my darker eyebrows and body hair. It’s just who I am,” she shared.

While some critics have accused Reese of emphasizing femininity, others argue that certain WNBA players are seen as too masculine. “There’s a lot of confusion about what’s considered feminine or masculine in sports,” Reese added, suggesting that the conversations around appearances could be more complex.

In a sometimes contradictory sentiment, she observed that while the WNBA may be characterized by diverse styles, the discussions often lean towards unfair judgments about players’ appearances.
