Cuomo Gains Momentum in Mayoral Race

Andrew Cuomo is picking up steam in his race against mayoral frontrunner Zorran Mamdani, bolstered by a notable $400,000 donation following Eric Adams’ withdrawal from the competition.

This significant fundraising came just two days after Hezoner declared he was stepping away from a long-term independent bid, according to campaign insiders.

Interestingly, this amount slightly shadows Curtis Sliwa’s total of $421,000, which he raised during the month of August up until September 29.

“Voters are engaged in this race; they desire a safe city that’s also affordable. They recognize that Andrew Cuomo has the experience to lead from day one,” a campaign source noted.

During the November race, Cuomo raised $940,000 across the filing period, with $334,000 being eligible for public matching funds. For context, Sliwa’s entire $421,000 qualifies for matching funds, while Mamdani has already optimized his contributions to good effect.

Mamdani responded to Cuomo’s fundraising at a separate press conference on Friday. “Thanks to the support of New Yorkers every day, we’re not worried about fundraising for this race,” he remarked.

Intriguingly, while Cuomo focuses on individual donors with an average contribution of $328, Sliwa’s average stands at $118. The city’s mayoral race has individual contribution limits set at $2,100.

As all three candidates ramp up their campaigns, each has spent over $600,000 on TV spots to get their messages out.

In the latest polling, it appears Cuomo is trailing Mamdani by nearly 20 points, with Mamdani polling at about 29% and Sliwa at a distant 11%.
