Jayson Tatum might come back sooner than anticipated after severe injury in surprising Celtics advantage

Jason Tatum May Return Sooner Than Expected

There’s growing speculation that Jason Tatum, the Celtics star recovering from a torn Achilles, could return as early as March, according to NBA insider Jake Fisher.

Tatum’s injury occurred in May, leading to uncertainty about his participation in the upcoming season. However, a recent training video has sparked renewed hope among fans.

Fisher noted that Tatum’s progress has caught the attention of the league during this media day. “I think it’s a significant detail,” he remarked, emphasizing that Tatum’s return timing is closely linked to the Celtics’ performance this season.

Hints of a possible comeback started gaining traction following a training video posted on September 28, where Tatum was seen dribbling, running, and lifting weights.

With a touch of humor, Tatum said, “I’m rusting like my mother’s f-ker,” which reflects his light-hearted approach amid serious recovery efforts.

His injury—sustained during Game 4 of the Eastern Conference semi-finals—had many believing he’d be sidelined for nearly a year. He underwent surgery the day after the injury.

Though Tatum attended his first on-court training session a month ago, he remained noncommittal about returning this season. In an interview with Sports Illustrated, he expressed, “I’m not saying I’m back. I’m not saying I’m not.” He aims to chase his rehabilitation goals daily.

This offseason, the Celtics appeared to move forward as if Tatum wouldn’t be available, letting go of significant players like Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis.

Despite strong competition from the Knicks and Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference, Boston still possesses enough talent to remain competitive.

There’s some belief within the organization that Boston could mimic previous successes following injuries. However, despite the optimism, there’s a sense of realism regarding their championship aspirations this season.

The big question remains: If Tatum regains full strength while the Celtics are battling for playoff positioning, how will they handle that dynamic? The current landscape suggests that, without key players, the Celtics may need to recalibrate their ambitions against tough rivals like Cleveland and New York.
