Blue Jays hope for good fortune in MLB postseason instead of Yankees

Buffalo Bills Fans Omitted from New York Sports Discussion

When talking about sports in New York, you usually hear teams like the Yankees, Mets, Rangers, Islanders, Giants, Jets, Knicks, and even the New Jersey Devils or Brooklyn Nets—yes, even those situated across the Hudson River get mentioned. But it’s curious, isn’t it? The Devils play in Newark, which is part of the New York metro area. Yet, Buffalo is about a six-hour drive from Midtown Manhattan.

The Bills decided to show their support recently by sending “good luck” wishes to the Toronto Blue Jays, who are gearing up to face the Yankees in the American League Division Series. The reaction? Mixed, to say the least. One user pointedly remarked, “Yeah, don’t call yourself a New York team again.”

Even Jessica Pegula, a pro tennis player whose parents own the Buffalo team, seemed taken aback, simply tweeting, “ah?” It’s a moment of confusion that resonates across fans.

One commentator quipped that this whole situation felt like a blatant dismissal of what it means to be a New York team. “Shouldn’t we support teams that are based in New York’s great state?” they asked. It’s a fair point, really. After all, the NFL is the National Football League, but, puzzlingly, it seems that Canada doesn’t even have teams.

In response to the Bills’ show of support, the Blue Jays shared a photo of Josh Allen wearing their jersey. This is noteworthy since the Blue Jays have held the title as Canada’s sole MLB team since the Montreal Expos departure in 2005. They clinched the AL East title over the Yankees thanks to a tiebreaker in their regular season matchups.

Interestingly, this matchup marks the first time postseason rivals from the same division will face off. It adds another layer to an already fascinating narrative.
