Houston Incident Involving Armed Illegal Immigrant Raises Concerns
Houston, Texas – A Mexican national with a history of violent crime was arrested after approaching the ICE office in Houston. He carried knives and crack pipes, despite being deported four times previously under Biden administration policies. This incident has stirred criticism regarding the government’s management of border security and internal enforcement, as described by DHS officials.
Homeland Security Director Tricia McLaughlin issued a statement highlighting the risks faced by immigration officers:
“Illegal individuals with criminal backgrounds, like the one apprehended yesterday, pose daily threats to our officers. Just outside the Houston facility, we witnessed a concerning situation involving a knife. Recently, we’ve also had cases where criminals used cars as weapons against law enforcement.”
McLaughlin’s remarks came after the arrest of Jose Andres Rodriguez Torres, who confronted officers outside the Houston ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Bureau. As officers approached him in a parking lot, he appeared jittery and fell to the ground, revealing a sheathed knife on his waist. Officers disarmed and subsequently arrested him.
A search following his arrest unearthed a glass pipe, commonly associated with crack cocaine use.
During a biometric background check, officials determined that Rodriguez Torres is in the U.S. illegally. Records indicate he has been deported four times since late 2021.
- On December 27, 2012, he illegally crossed into the U.S. near Tecate, California, and was returned to Mexico by Border Patrol.
- On April 14, 2014, he re-entered illegally a second time and was again sent back.
- He made his third illegal entry on April 22, 2014, near Rio Grande City, Texas, also resulting in his return.
- For the fourth time, he entered the U.S. illegally on April 24, 2014, leading to another deportation.
Officials noted that Rodriguez Torres has re-entered the U.S. at various times and locations since those incidents.
In an earlier incident, Seattle police arrested him in October 2024 for robbery. After his release by local authorities, ICE officials took notice. One DHS official remarked that “Biden’s open border policies have allowed him to continue endangering Americans.”
Rodriguez Torres is now in ICE custody with removal proceedings anticipated.
Additionally, on September 24, it was reported that an attacker opened fire at the ICE office in Dallas, resulting in fatalities and injuries among illegal immigrants. The assailant took his own life as officers approached, with evidence indicating anti-ICE motivations.
ICE has released footage showing their officers risking their lives to aid immigrants during the attack, as they rushed to evacuate individuals from transport vans under fire.
DHS officials noted a dramatic rise—up to 1,000%—in attacks on ICE agents and officers since the onset of intensified crackdowns on illegal immigration under President Trump.
