Senator Critiques Democrats During Government Shutdown
While discussing the current government shutdown and the Democratic stance on healthcare for undocumented immigrants, Senator Mark Wayne Mullin (R-OK) expressed that Democrats are “not fighting for Americans.” In an interview with Breitbart News, he shared his perspective on the ongoing political situation.
Mullin anticipated that Democrats would persist in their efforts regarding other issues in the upcoming week, predicting that the government would likely resume operations by Thursday or Friday. He elaborated, noting, “They will continue to fight through the rest of this week… Next week, and I think we will resume government on Thursday or Friday.” He attributed this expectation to the scheduled recess for Congress the following week, adding that many Democrats up for reelection are planning vacations. He also highlighted a significant fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee (DNC) happening that weekend.
“It’s one of the biggest fundraisers of the year,” Mullin added, suggesting that senators not on vacation would be eager to attend due to the presence of influential donors.
Matthew Boyle responded to Mullin’s comments and pointed out that Democrats like Representatives Maxine Waters (D-CA) and Ro Khanna (D-CA) framed the shutdown as a defense of free healthcare for undocumented individuals, which he criticized, stating, “it’s denying what it is.” Mullin agreed, recalling that Vice President JD Vance had a similar take, describing it as mere sleight of hand.
Mullin remarked, “It’s interesting because they’re just making fun of this. This is the same policy that contributed to our losses in last November’s elections.” He described these policies as attempts to cater to the left while neglecting public safety. He compared the situation to a coach unwilling to acknowledge a failing strategy, suggesting that if Democrats persist with these approaches, they might face more challenges ahead.
He also noted that Democrats currently have “the lowest ever” approval ratings, pointing to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) as leading figures in this “awakened movement.” The implications of their strategies could resonate heavily in future elections.
