Injury Update on Oklahoma Wide Receiver Keontes Lewis
During the Oklahoma Soulers’ recent game against the Kent State Golden Flashes, wide receiver Keontes Lewis suffered a significant injury, which occurred in the first quarter while attempting a catch.
Lewis tried to follow a pass thrown by quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. It was a challenging play—he ended up catching the ball near the end zone but collided with the brick walls surrounding Memorial Stadium in Norman, Oklahoma.
After the impact, he lay on the ground for a few moments before the team’s medical staff arrived to assist him. Unfortunately, he had to be placed on a stretcher and taken off the field.
His teammate, R. Mason Thomas, expressed concern for Lewis, saying it was tough to watch a friend in pain. He had a positive outlook, noting they would reach out to him while he was being treated at the hospital.
Following the incident, Lewis underwent further testing, which reportedly showed a “promising” outlook according to the OU Sports Medicine team.
The head coach of Oklahoma, Brent Venables, commented on the incident, describing the situation as frightening. He expressed hope for Lewis’s recovery and mentioned that the program might consider adding more padding around the exposed brick walls to enhance player safety.
This season, Lewis has made 17 receptions for a total of 210 yards and has scored two touchdowns.
