ICE agents fire on armed individual labeled a ‘domestic terrorist’ in Chicago after being trapped by 10 vehicles.

Incident Involving ICE Agents and Protesters in Chicago

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents shot a woman during a confrontation in Chicago after she and others allegedly drove their vehicles into the agents, effectively trapping them, as reported by officials from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

This occurred on Saturday morning near the intersection of 40th Street and Kedzie Avenue, amid rising tensions following President Trump’s decision to assign federal agents to the sanctuary city.

The woman involved, identified as Marimar Martinez, a U.S. citizen, reportedly participated in the assault on ICE agents about 15 miles from an ICE processing facility in Broadview, a suburb of Chicago.

According to reports, the ICE vehicle suffered a flat tire, leading to a situation where the officers were surrounded by individuals described as “domestic terrorists,” who began hurling smoke bombs, rocks, and bottles at them.

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin detailed the situation in an X post, stating, “Our brave law enforcement officers were rammed by vehicles and boxed in by 10 cars.”

“Agents were unable to move their vehicles and exited the car. One of the drivers who rammed the law enforcement vehicle was armed with a semi-automatic weapon. Law enforcement was forced to deploy their weapons and fire defensive shots at an armed U.S. citizen who drove herself to the hospital to get care for wounds,” McLaughlin noted.

She also mentioned that Martinez was previously identified in an intelligence bulletin for allegedly doxing agents and inciting violence online.

“Thankfully, no law enforcement officers were seriously injured in this attack. [Illinois Governor JB] Pritzker’s Chicago Police Department is leaving the shooting scene and refuses to assist us in securing the area. There is a growing crowd and we are deploying special operations to control the scene,” McLaughlin added.

Martinez has since been released from the hospital and taken into custody. Another suspect, identified as Anthony Ian Santos Ruiz, was also arrested in connection with the incident.

The facility in Broadview has become a focal point for protests, with Governor Pritzker criticizing the Trump administration for its aggressive tactics towards Illinois residents.

“This morning, the Trump Administration’s Department of War gave me an ultimatum: call up your troops, or we will,” Pritzker stated in an X post. “It is absolutely outrageous and un-American to demand a Governor send military troops within our own borders and against our will.”

The White House confirmed Pritzker’s statements, announcing that President Trump authorized the deployment of 300 National Guardsmen to safeguard federal officers and resources.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem declared that they will continue to take action despite the rising violence against federal immigration officers, stating: “We’re going to prosecute them and bring them to justice—we’re not taking this anymore.”

“Our brave men and women of law enforcement are being targeted and attacked by violent anarchists who seek to tear down America. I want each and every member of law enforcement to know this: President Trump and I have your backs. Stand with ICE as they continue to protect and defend our homeland,” she added.

According to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, a total of 10 individuals have been arrested related to the protests in Broadview since Friday.
