UCLA Celebrates Stunning Upset Over Pennsylvania
UCLA fans poured onto the Rose Bowl field in celebration following an unexpected 42-37 win against No. 7 Pennsylvania on Saturday. The atmosphere was electric, filled with cheers and excitement.
As fans rushed the field, security struggled to keep control amidst the blue and gold rush. Some individuals were even handcuffed, yet that did little to deter the wave of supporters.
Colin Ward, a reporter for a student publication in Pennsylvania, shared a video capturing the chaotic scene—showing a girl almost getting arrested as she sprinted across the field, leaving security in her wake.
UCLA fans stormed the field after beating Pennsylvania. It was tough for the security, as several fans managed to evade them entirely.
Despite efforts to apprehend a particularly quick fan, a security guard ultimately abandoned the chase. It seemed like an impossible task to maintain order in such an enthusiastic crowd.
The Bruins, who had been struggling for weeks and faced coaching changes, managed to pull off an impressive defeat against one of the nation’s top teams, filled with NFL prospects. It was quite a turnaround, and no one really expected it.
Crucially, this game marked UCLA’s first victory over a top-10 team in 16 games and made them the fifth team this season to win after starting 0-4.
Fans clearly felt the triumph was worth celebrating. Coach Jerry Neuhazel was even lifted by the players in a moment of pure joy following the game.
The pivotal player in this victory was sophomore quarterback Nico Iamaleava, who delivered a spectacular performance with five touchdowns against the Nittany Lions. He completed 17 of his 24 passes for two touchdowns, accumulating 166 yards, and he also rushed for 128 yards, scoring three times. This standout display from Iamaleava was instrumental in clinching the win.
