Health Scare After Lottery Win
Reports indicate that a British forklift driver who became a billionaire overnight is now facing a serious health crisis after indulging in months of nonstop partying.
Adam Lopez, aged 39, won nearly $17 after hitting it big with a scratch-off lottery ticket back in July. By September, however, he found himself behind an ambulance suffering from a pulmonary embolism on both sides, as reported.
Lopez reflected on his experience, saying, “I realized that what I was doing had to come to an end eventually, but this wasn’t the way I imagined it. It was a massive wake-up call.” He resides in Matthishal.
Workers familiar with him described his recent lifestyle as relentless parties and “burning the candle at both ends.” Lopez noted, “I got a taste of a life I had never lived, but maybe I didn’t go about it the best way… It was enjoyable until my health took a hit.”
He became aware of the health issue about three weeks ago, realizing a blood clot had spread from his legs to his lungs.
Lopez was hospitalized for over eight days at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, which he referred to as a “kick in the backside.” He recounted the moment when he couldn’t walk or breathe, leading him to call for an ambulance and the life-changing experience of lying in it while listening to the sirens.
Despite the dire situation, he felt a sense of support from the hospital staff, stating he felt “surrounded by angels.”
Looking back, he stated that being in such a critical condition made him reconsider everything. “When you are in an ambulance, it puts life into perspective,” he said.
Following his lottery win, Lopez decided to resign from his job as a forklift driver. “Quitting was probably a mistake,” he admitted. “I lost all sense of structure in my daily life. It completely upended the routine I had maintained.”
Now, he is concentrating on his recovery, which he estimates could take the next six to nine months, and he hopes to return to his previous self.
