Garrett Wilson Reflects on Jets’ Struggles

Garrett Wilson is facing a tough situation with the Jets, who have missed the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year under yet another new head coach.

“Honestly, no one saw this coming,” Wilson remarked following the Jets’ 37-22 loss to the Cowboys. “This is the first time I’ve gone through such a complete overhaul in coaching staff, and it’s hard to wrap my head around the growing pains that come with it.”

“I wouldn’t say this is typical for new coaches or for new teams, but we’re committed to improving. It feels like, week by week, we’re laying the foundation for something good in the locker room. But, well, it hasn’t translated into wins just yet.”

“When it really counts, that’s what it’s all about. It’s crucial for us as players to be at our best, and frankly, that’s got to be our mindset going forward,” he added, reflecting on the team’s need to find a winning mentality.

Despite the Jets’ 0-5 record, the team is struggling to find its rhythm. “If my best practice happens on Thursday, it’s not enough. I need to bring my A-game when it really matters—on Sundays. We can’t let what’s being coached slip away if we want a chance to win,” Wilson explained, emphasizing team accountability.

He continued, “I’m not entirely sure when we’ll hit our stride, but I’m going to give it my all. We’re prepared well during the week, but if our practice doesn’t translate into performance, then we’re in trouble on game day.”

Wilson had a solid performance with 6 receptions for 71 yards and a touchdown, but it wasn’t enough to turn the tide. When asked about the message from the coaching staff post-game, he said, “It’s fundamentally about execution, and we know that. We talk about it constantly. At the end of the day, it falls on us as players to make it happen.”

“I hold myself accountable for that, and I know others do too,” he stated, underscoring the collective responsibility within the team.

Historically, past Jets teams have struggled under similar circumstances, particularly when facing a winless start.

“We’re all in this together, relying on each other—players, coaches, and everyone involved,” Wilson said. “No one promised us an easy season. We just have to stick with it and keep pushing forward. We’ve got new coaches, and we’re being guided the right way.”
