Broncos Overcome Eagles in Controversial Finish
The Denver Broncos’ recent win against the Philadelphia Eagles sparked some debate, especially over certain calls—or lack thereof—toward the end of the game.
In a critical moment, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts aimed a pass at tight end Dallas Goedert close to the end zone. Goedert appeared to be interfered with by Broncos safety JL Skinner as he went for the ball, but no flags were thrown, leading to an incomplete pass.
Philadelphia’s head coach, Nick Sirianni, visibly expressed his confusion when he questioned the absence of a penalty flag. But, it seemed, it was all in vain.
On the subsequent play, Hurts delivered a desperate throw into the end zone, but it slipped through the hands of wide receiver DeVonta Smith, bouncing harmlessly to the ground.
In the end, the Broncos secured a 21-17 victory, which ended the Eagles’ winning streak. This put Denver’s record at 3-2 while Philadelphia fell to 4-1. It seemed fans were still pondering the missed penalties as they took to social media.
Philadelphia initially took a strong lead, going up 17-3 after Hurts connected with Saquon Barkley for a beautiful 47-yard touchdown. It felt like the Eagles were on the verge of dominating the game, but the Broncos had other plans.
The Broncos began to rally with a two-yard rushing touchdown from JK Dobbins, capping off a solid 10-play drive of 64 yards. Quarterback Bo Nix then teamed up with Evan Engram for an 11-yard touchdown pass, narrowing the gap to just one point. Head coach Sean Payton decided to go for a two-point conversion, and the team executed it flawlessly to take the lead.
Will Lutz added a field goal with just over a minute left on the clock, while the Denver defense stifled any last hope from Philadelphia, fully sealing their comeback with an impressive 18-0 finish in the fourth quarter.
Nix completed 24 of 39 passes for 242 yards and a touchdown, while Dobbins contributed with 79 yards on 20 carries. Cortland Sutton led with eight receptions for 99 yards, and Engram had four catches totaling 33 yards.
On the other side, Hurts completed 23 of 38 passes for 280 yards and two touchdowns, with Barkley and Goedert each catching a touchdown. Smith topped the receiving list with eight catches for 114 yards, and AJ Brown added five receptions for 43 yards.
