Miller Critiques Goldman Over South Carolina Fire Incident

In Washington, Deputy White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller sharply criticized Representative Dan Goldman after some Manhattan Democrats condemned remarks made by Trump officials regarding a fire at the home of Judge Diane Goodstein in South Carolina.

As investigations continue into the fire that damaged the judge’s $1.5 million beach house, Goldman (D-NY) labeled it “arson” and accused Miller and other figures associated with the Trump administration of spreading “docks and threats” against the judge, who has opposed the administration.

Miller responded with strong words on social media, describing Goldman as “mean, deeply twisted, and mean,” and pointed out the Trump administration’s efforts to combat illegal doxing, threats, and political violence while criticizing what he referred to as “slutty lies” and “dementia smears.” He suggested that Goldman would persist in spreading these untruths.

In his remarks, Miller also highlighted a troubling comment made by Virginia Attorney General nominee Hope Jay Jones (D), who had reportedly fantasized about a violent act against a Republican official in 2022, expressing that it could shift political views in the area.

Miller underscored the disparity he perceives in how political violence is addressed, calling out Jones’s attitude and his leniency toward a woman who pleaded guilty to attempting to harm Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. He pointed to a pattern where Democratic figures show a disturbing fascination with violence against their opponents while showcasing compassion toward those who have harmed conservatives.

“In the meantime, Virginia’s Democratic AG candidates are caught up in their own violent imaginings, while the administration shows a stark leniency toward those who threaten judges,” he said. “We remain focused on ensuring public safety and tackling domestic fear.” Recently, Miller pledged resources to confront what he referred to as a left-wing “domestic terrorist movement,” indicating a significant rise in his concerns over left-wing extremism.

He warned of an “expanding movement of left-wing terrorism” that he believes is safeguarded by liberal judges and attorneys, urging for the use of state power to dismantle these groups.

Goldman pushed back against Miller on Monday, questioning why he hasn’t condemned the violence directed at Goodstein’s home, suggesting that a unified denunciation of political violence would be a logical stance for someone advocating for active measures against it.

Goldman argued, “If you’re trying to fight political violence, why not denounce the violence aimed at you and your administration? It seems like it should be straightforward. Do you denounce all political violence, or is it just on the side of your supporters?”

Goodstein, who was injured alongside her husband and son in the fire, has expressed a desire to recover from this traumatic incident.
