White House cautions that Americans will face 'pain' if Democrats do not resolve shutdown

White House Warns of Impact from Government Shutdown

According to the White House, if Democrats do not vote to reopen the federal government, it could lead to significant suffering for many Americans. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt shared these concerns during a press briefing on Monday.

She remarked, “Unfortunately, there will be a lot of pain.” Leavitt emphasized that vulnerable groups, especially women and children who depend on essential food programs, would be heavily affected.

Monday marked the sixth day of the government shutdown, with both political parties blaming each other. The Senate is expected to vote that night on competing measures to fund the government.

Leavitt urged Democratic senators to take action, saying, “We urge Democrat senators to resume government and vote to do the right thing.” She pointed out that if an agreement isn’t reached, federal employees would miss their next paycheck and programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) could run out of funds.

Leavitt expressed the administration’s desire to avoid these scenarios, mentioning efforts from the Bureau of Management and Budget to secure funding for those in need. “We don’t want to see this,” she added, reinforcing the urgency of the situation.

President Trump has been vocal about his dissatisfaction with the negotiations, labeling the Democrats’ demands as “irrational.” He indicated that thousands of federal layoffs could occur soon if the deadlock continues.

On Sunday, Trump highlighted the potential for further layoffs, attributing them to Democrats who opposed the funding measures. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how both parties will navigate this crisis.
