ICE and Oklahoma Highway Patrol Conduct Major Immigration Sweep

Recently, over 100 illegal immigrants were arrested during a three-day enforcement operation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) along with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

According to a statement from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on October 6th, this operation specifically targeted threats to public safety on I-40 in Oklahoma. The crackdown occurred from September 22nd to the 25th.

During this operation, ICE reported that 120 illegal immigrants were detained due to immigration violations, with 91 of them operating commercial vehicles and holding commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs).

Among the individuals arrested, some had prior convictions for serious offenses like DUI, illegal re-entry into the United States, money laundering, human smuggling, and assault.

A few of these individuals were also found to be connected to a cannabis cultivation site, highlighting a broader issue.

ICE Deputy Director Madison Xiahan noted that having these illegal immigrants off the roads contributes to safer highways. Xiahan also mentioned the need for state and local law enforcement agencies to consider signing 287(g) contracts, which would allow them to assist in immigration enforcement.

The operation follows a troubling incident in California where previously deported suspects caused a DUI-related crash, raising alarms about ongoing public safety issues.

As the crackdown unfolds, officials emphasize that removing individuals who pose a risk while operating commercial vehicles is a significant step in enhancing safety on the roads.
