Cardinals Coach Regrets Handling of Emmali Demercado’s Mistake
Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon expressed remorse regarding his reaction to running back Emmali Demercado after a costly mistake that led to a lost touchdown. Demercado dropped the ball before crossing into the end zone during what should have been a 72-yard touchdown run in their unexpected loss to the Titans on Sunday.
This moment was captured on video, showcasing Gannon visibly upset while teammates attempted to console Demercado. Speaking to the media the following day, Gannon admitted he “didn’t feel great about it.” He reflected on how the situation could have been handled better.
“In the moment, I made remarks to the team that weren’t representative of who I am,” Gannon said. “My job is to address issues and keep a level head. Everyone makes mistakes during a game, and this particular one was significant in affecting our chances of winning.”
In his remarks, Gannon clarified that there would be no punishment for mistakes, noting his frustration throughout the game due to various errors by the team.
“I thought that play was crucial,” Gannon continued. “We’ve trained for these situations and need to improve. It could have changed the outcome.” Had Demercado scored, it’s likely the Cardinals would have clinched the victory instead of letting the Titans rally for their win.
