Trevor Lawrence’s Game-Winning Play
In a thrilling moment, he stumbled and fell, yet still managed to score a decisive touchdown.
Trevor Lawrence’s one-yard touchdown run wasn’t exactly a textbook hero move, but it secured a 31-28 win for the Jaguars against the Chiefs on Monday night in Jacksonville. As the clock ticked down, it felt like time was almost up.
As the play unfolded, Lawrence tripped when a snap landed at one of his linemen’s feet, causing him to hit the ground with just 30 seconds left. He attempted to rise quickly but seemed a bit disoriented and fell again.
After that brief scare, he managed to get back on his feet, spotting a potential opening to the left.
Lawrence escaped the clutches of Chiefs defensive tackle Jerry Tilley and leapt into the end zone, putting the Jaguars ahead with just 23 seconds to spare.
“I just panicked on the ground,” he reflected to ESPN after the game. “We didn’t have a timeout, and I just knew I had to get up. I thought about throwing it away to stop the clock, but there wasn’t anyone close.”
This victory marks the Jaguars’ third consecutive win, tying them with the Colts for the lead in the AFC South. Meanwhile, Lawrence had a solid outing, throwing for 221 yards and a touchdown, and adding two rushing touchdowns, leaving the Chiefs at 2-3.
This stunning win capped off an unexpected weekend in the NFL—where Mac Jones led the Patriots past the 49ers, the Broncos took down the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles, and Drake played a part in the Patriots’ victory against their rivals.
