Framber Valdez of the Tigers thrown out for hitting Trevor Story of the Red Sox with a pitch

Tigers’ Framber Valdez Ejected in Loss to Red Sox

In a disappointing game for the Tigers, they fell 10-3 to the Red Sox at Comerica Park on Tuesday night. The drama peaked when Detroit pitcher Framber Valdez was ejected after being involved in a hit by Boston’s shortstop Trevor Story, which led to both teams emptying their benches.

Things got heated in the fourth inning when the Tigers were already behind 8-2. Valdez faced consecutive solo home runs from Willson Contreras and Wylier Abreu, both hitting him within just three pitches.

The situation escalated when Story came up next and was also hit by a pitch from Valdez.

Home plate umpire Adam Beck stepped in quickly to calm the situation, though the Red Sox bench didn’t hold back and made their way onto the field, with Contreras being the first to react.

Meanwhile, the Tigers charged onto the field, but as players gathered by first base, it surprisingly didn’t lead to much confrontation, and the tension eased.

Unfortunately for Valdez, he was the sole player dismissed from the game.

Red Sox interim captain Chad Tracy asserted that the pitch was deliberate. Valdez disagreed, stating, “It wasn’t intentional. It may seem that way, but it wasn’t.” He argued it was unfair to be ejected without prior warning, noting that a repeat offense would warrant harsher consequences.

The Tigers’ manager, AJ Hinch, expressed his discomfort over the events of the evening. “We’re playing a really good brand of baseball here… It didn’t feel good to be out there.”

Valdez, who signed a hefty three-year, $115 million contract with Detroit this offseason, had entered the game with a respectable 3.35 ERA. However, after allowing seven earned runs over just three innings, that figure swelled to 4.57.

In light of these developments, Valdez was thrust into the role of ace this week after it became known that Tarik Skubal, a two-time Cy Young winner, would require elbow surgery.

Valdez’s first opportunity to lead the rotation will certainly be one he won’t forget, though not for the reasons he might have hoped.
