Conor McGregor Accepts 18-Month Suspension for Anti-Doping Violation

The UFC has confirmed that Conor McGregor has accepted a lengthy suspension for breaching their anti-doping regulations. McGregor will sit out for 18 months following three missed biological sample collection attempts within a 12-month timeframe leading up to 2024.

The UFC stated, “Athletes must provide accurate location information so that they can be tested without prior notice.” McGregor’s missed tests were recorded on September 13, September 19, and September 20 of 2024, all labeled as “location disorder” by the Combat Sports Anti-Doping (CSAD) body.

Originally, McGregor was facing a 24-month suspension, but after cooperating with the organization, this was reduced. Although he couldn’t be tested during those specific dates, CSAD acknowledged that he was recovering from an injury and not preparing for any fights then. McGregor accepted the responsibility for the missed tests and provided insights that helped CSAD understand the situation better.

Despite these circumstances, CSAD pointed out that it’s crucial for athletes to lodge accurate location details, as unannounced testing is vital to the effectiveness of the UFC’s anti-doping policy. Given McGregor’s cooperation, the six-month reduction in his suspension seems somewhat reasonable.

His suspension will count back from the date of the last missed test, making him eligible to return to competition in March 2026.

In other news, it’s been announced that the UFC will hold an event on the White House lawn in June 2026, coinciding with the U.S. 250th birthday. McGregor expressed enthusiasm about fighting on that card, though UFC CEO Dana White clarified that no arrangements have been finalized yet.

White assured fans that the upcoming event promises to be the best fight card ever put together for a White House occasion.

McGregor hasn’t fought since his loss to Dustin Poirier in July 2021. He was meant to face Michael Chandler at UFC 303 in June 2024, but an injury to his pinky toe derailed those plans.
