Nor'easter poses risks for the coming weekend on the East Coast with heavy rain and strong winds

Coastal Storms Expected This Weekend

This weekend, a significant low-pressure system is set to form along the east coast, bringing heavy rain and strong winds.

The Northeast is likely to experience some coastal storms, with northeast winds and substantial precipitation in the mix.

According to the FOX Forecast Center, there’s a notable consensus among computer models pointing toward the system’s development as it approaches.

Areas from the Carolinas up to southern New England are at risk of being affected by potentially severe coastal storms.

FOX Weather’s hurricane expert, Brian Norcross, mentioned that sustained wind gusts could be the primary impact of this system.

“We’ve seen high tides not fully receding due to constant winds,” Norcross noted. “That’s when coastal issues can occur.”

The extent to which the low-pressure system reaches the coast remains uncertain and will likely become clearer later this week.

FOX Weather Meteorologist Kiyana Lewis pointed out that certain regions, such as the Outer Banks, need to be monitored closely. “Yes, you are part of this story, as significant waves and potential coastal erosion could result,” she said.

Interestingly, even though the term nor’easter usually brings to mind winter weather, this storm lacks the cold air typically associated with it. This means the I-95 corridor will only experience liquid precipitation.

As this low-pressure system develops off the southeast coast, heavy rain could pose a flash flooding threat for parts of the Carolinas and Virginia this weekend.

If the storm unfolds as anticipated, expect heavy rain, strong winds, dangerous rip currents, and high waves to persist for several days.

More details are expected to unfold as the week progresses.
