Yankees Pull Off Dramatic Comeback in ALDS Game 3 Against Blue Jays
The New York Yankees aren’t done yet. In a thrilling Game 3 of the American League Division Series against the Toronto Blue Jays, they overcame a daunting 6-1 deficit to clinch a comeback victory, marking one of the most pivotal games in the team’s history.
During a powerful middle inning, the Yankees scored a total of eight runs, ending the game with a 9-6 win. As they prepare for another challenge on Wednesday night, they look to rookie Cam Schlittler, who previously shined in his postseason debut against the Boston Red Sox.
On the other side, Blue Jays manager John Schneider might have to depend on bullpen strategies to rein in the suddenly charged Yankees batting lineup.
The Yankees had entered this game after a tough start, having lost both previous games 23-8 combined. They aimed to strike early, but the crowd at Yankee Stadium fell silent when Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a home run right away, putting Toronto ahead 2-0.
Although the Yankees fought back with a single from Giancarlo Stanton in the bottom of the first inning, Toronto managed to shake off the Yankees’ momentum shortly after.
In a dramatic twist, Toronto succeeded in knocking out starting pitcher Carlos Rodon, gaining momentum with contributions from players like Dalton Versho and Anthony Santander.
The Yankees, however, wouldn’t give up easily. Aaron Judge stepped up in the bottom of the third inning, hitting an RBI double and bringing the score to 6-3. Even though the Blue Jays maintained a solid lead after three innings, the Yankees were poised for that crucial moment to flip the game.
That opportunity came when Austin Wells’ pop-up turned into a key error by Toronto’s Addison Berger, igniting the Yankees’ rally.
Wells eventually reached second base, and with Trent Grisham walking on base, Judge found himself in a position to make a game-changing hit. Despite facing skepticism about his postseason performance, Judge delivered a powerful swing against Blue Jays reliever Lewis Burland, hitting a dramatic three-run home run that tied the game at six.
It was a turning moment, and the Yankees’ fans erupted in cheers. But the Yankees knew they needed more runs to take control. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Jazz Chisholm Jr. answered that call, blasting a fastball over the right field seats, giving the Yankees their first lead in the series. Wells followed up with an RBI, extending the lead to 8-6.
The Yankees held on to their lead, finishing the game at 9-6 thanks to a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth inning. With key relief efforts from Devin Williams and David Bedner, the Yankees were able to secure crucial outs to move to Game 4.
Had it not been for the effective pitching from Fernando Cruz, Camilo Doval, and Tim Hill, the outcome could have been different. Game 4 is set for Wednesday night at 8:08 PM ET at Yankee Stadium.
