Unruly cities and resistance to federal power endanger American freedom

Lawlessness in American Cities

Cities like Chicago and Portland serve as examples of what occurs when the rule of law deteriorates. The situation in these areas isn’t just exaggerated claims; it’s a visible descent into lawlessness.

When a governor disregards the threat to federal employees’ safety, and when police forces in Chicago refuse to aid federal agents, the situation seems dire. The act of cartels issuing bounties for the lives of U.S. immigration officials resembles a nation spiraling into chaos.

We currently face two significant threats: the intimidation of federal agents and the potential normalization of military personnel acting as law enforcement. Accepting either could mark the end of our republic.

This issue transcends political divides. The current struggle isn’t solely between Democrats and Republicans; it’s really about fundamental concepts of good versus evil, and order versus disorder.

Decline in Morality

For decades, Americans have cherished a republic founded on law, freedom, and moral accountability. Sadly, this foundation is now under siege from extremists determined to dismantle it and replace it with something far more alarming.

Groups like Antifa, with backing from certain progressive circles, are not isolated movements. Similar to Occupy Wall Street, there are significant financial and global elements that secretly align with these anti-establishment factions. Their intent is destruction rather than meaningful change.

Society has been conditioned to accept various changes that, say, a generation ago, would have been unthinkable. Concepts such as drag performances for children, biological males participating in women’s sports, and partnerships between the government and mega-corporations have become more accepted. Today, an alarming number of people seem indifferent or even supportive when cartels threaten federal personnel.

How did we arrive at this point? What convinced so many to shift their views on crucial matters like morality, liberty, and legality? There have been sustained efforts to persuade the public that the outcomes can justify the methods used to achieve them.

Promoting “tolerance” may seem to explain situations like men competing against women in sports, and claims of “mercy” could provide the rationale for sheltering undocumented immigrants, even those who have committed violent crimes. The troubling ideologies behind movements like Antifa find justification in targeting federal agents and undermining lawful authority. Our culture has been groomed for such circumstances.

The Costs Are Ongoing

This makes the argument for deploying the military to restore order in U.S. cities all the more critical. While I have traditionally opposed military involvement in civil law enforcement, we must confront the constitutional realities and restrictions on this issue. The Civil Police Law limits military intervention in maintaining domestic order, but the Insurrection Act remains for rare emergencies when regular law enforcement cannot restore order, especially amidst mob-related chaos.

Nonetheless, the Constitution mandates specific limitations, such as clear directives to disperse offenders, transparency in decision-making, limited scope, temporary action, and judicial oversight.

Soldiers are trained for warfare, while police uphold the law. Mixing these roles can spell trouble for society.

But we also cannot stand by while local authorities threaten federal agents or impede federal enforcement actions. The extremes of anarchy on one side and militarization on the other jeopardize our republic.

Ultimately, the resolution lies within the Constitution itself. Safeguarding civil liberties is pivotal. We must ensure the rule of law is enforced, strive for transparency, and resist justifying tactics merely because they’re beneficial to one side. History has shown us the dangers of sacrificing freedom in the name of security, as seen with the aftermath of 9/11 and the resulting Patriot Act.

We face two alarming threats: the intimidation of federal agents and the potential for soldiers to become de-facto law enforcement. If we allow either to take root, we risk losing our republic entirely. Local governments must not be permitted to suspend federal enforcement, nor can the right accept the neglect of constitutional boundaries.

The real danger is not just from mobs and cartels; it’s from a populace that has grown indifferent to truth and constitutional limits. When fear governs thoughts and actions, justifications abound. If enough individuals believe that the ends justify the means, the fabric of society begins to unravel.

Change is necessary. We must commit to upholding the rule of law, preserving civil liberties, and ensuring that our government reflects the will of the people. Only through such vigilance can we maintain a truly representative democracy.
