Texas Rep. Introduces Bill to Strengthen Deportation Efforts
Texas Republican Representative Brandon Gill is stepping up efforts to enhance deportation measures nationwide.
On Wednesday, Gill unveiled what he calls the Landmark Act. The bill aims to ensure the detention and swift removal of individuals involved in violent crimes, gang activities, or terrorism, while also preventing them from misusing asylum protections.
Gill claims, “Democrat leaders have essentially invited these individuals to invade our communities.”
As it stands, existing laws mainly restrict quick removal of immigrants who have recently crossed the border—specifically those within 100 miles and within a period of 14 days. Unfortunately, due to various loopholes and administrative procedures, criminals frequently find themselves subjected to slower, conventional removal methods.
In light of this, Gill’s proposed legislation directly targets emergency situations involving criminal immigrants.
“Our main goal is to safeguard our American community,” Gill stated. He emphasized, “America should never serve as a sanctuary for gang members, terrorists, or violent offenders.”
Gill continued, “Yet, Democrat leaders have extended an invitation for them to breach our borders. Serious crimes deserve serious consequences. My bill aligns with President Trump’s initiatives to rapidly apprehend and remove violent, unlawful foreigners, as requested by citizens who desire a safe environment.”
During President Joe Biden’s term, it has been reported that over 10 million immigrants have entered the United States.
Since former President Donald Trump took office in January, the number of illegal border crossings has dramatically decreased, reaching record lows not seen in over fifty years. Gill portrays his bill as a means to maintain this downward trend and solidify Trump’s immigration policies.
