Tyrone Tracy Returns to Giants, Darius Slayton Out
Tyrone Tracy is set to make his comeback with the Giants on Thursday night, after only missing two games due to a partially dislocated shoulder. Notably, he wasn’t on the injury report provided by the team on Wednesday, indicating he’s ready to take the field against the Eagles at MetLife Stadium.
On the other hand, the situation for wide receiver Darius Slayton isn’t as positive. During last Sunday’s 26-14 defeat against the Saints, he participated in 55 out of 73 offensive plays but had to exit the game late due to a hamstring strain.
As a result, Slayton will be unavailable for Thursday’s matchup, which poses a challenge given the short week—only four days between games.
To fill the gap, veteran Lil Jordan Humphrey is expected to be promoted from the practice squad to bolster the receiver lineup.
Rookie quarterback Jackson Dart will be making his third NFL start, but he will have a thin receiving corps. Slayton is out, and top target Malik Nabors is on season-ending injured reserve because of a torn ACL.
Dart’s options will include Wan’Dale Robinson, rookie Beau Collins, Jalin Hiatt, and possibly Humphrey. During previous games, Dart leaned heavily on New Orleans’ right sides, Theo Johnson and Daniel Bellinger.
Tracy had started in two of the first three games before injuring his shoulder in Week 3 against the Chiefs. His performance had been somewhat underwhelming, managing just 68 yards on 22 carries. Currently, rookie Cam Scatterbo leads the team with 240 rushing yards, averaging 3.8 yards per attempt, and has scored two of the Giants’ three rushing touchdowns.
Tracy completed assessments with medical staff, which cleared him from the injury report. He expressed his understanding of the doctors’ evaluations, emphasizing the importance of being ready to perform well. “If I can’t produce the way I want to, then I shouldn’t be out there,” he noted.
