Giannis Antetokounmpo Addresses Trade Rumors
Star player Giannis Antetokounmpo has been the subject of trade rumors, particularly linking him to the Knicks. However, he clarified on Wednesday that his focus remains on Milwaukee and the Bucks.
Still, he acknowledged that his perspective might shift over time.
Following an ESPN report suggesting that the Knicks would be the only team he’d consider if he were to leave the Bucks, it was confirmed by Stephen Bondi that a trade was discussed between the teams back in August, although nothing came of it.
“The moment I stepped onto this court and into this facility, I communicated with my teammates and those I respect. Once this jersey is on, everything else fades away,” Antetokounmpo stated. “I’m focused on what’s in front of me.”
He added, “If I change my mind in six or seven months, that’s human too. I have the right to make decisions, but I’m committed to this team, to these guys, and to the coaching staff.”
Antetokounmpo mentioned that he hadn’t seen the ESPN article yet and is attempting to take a break from social media as the new season approaches. The two-time MVP, who led the Bucks to an NBA Championship in 2021 and averaged 30.4 points last season, expressed a desire to be part of a winning environment, saying, “I believe in this team.”
As for the trade rumors, various logistical obstacles exist, especially since the Knicks are currently low on assets after recent player acquisitions. When asked about the situation, Knicks head coach Mike Brown indicated he was uninvolved and is concentrating on preparing the roster for the upcoming season.
Antetokounmpo’s recent statements suggest that, at least for now, he feels settled in Milwaukee.
He concluded, “I believe in my teammates and am here to lead. It’s going to be tough, but we’ll take it day by day. All that extra noise doesn’t matter.”
