Trump Administration Intensifies Efforts Against Antifa Funding Sources
The Trump administration is increasing its focus on identifying the financial backing of Antifa and similar protest groups. This initiative aims to uncover the networks of nonprofits and secret funding sources that officials claim are contributing to organized violence in the U.S.
On Wednesday, President Trump convened a roundtable at the White House with independent journalists who have witnessed Antifa-related violence. This meeting is part of a larger strategy to address domestic unrest.
Notable attendees included Seamus Bruner, who is the director of research at the Government Accountability Institute. He emphasized that the administration’s comprehensive approach is now in full swing.
“President Trump is taking this very seriously,” Bruner remarked, mentioning that the president has highlighted the importance of tracking these financial resources to officials like Attorney General Pam Bondi, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, and FBI Director Kash Patel.
Bruner argued that in order to fully understand Antifa, it’s essential to follow the money trail. He mentioned an entity he refers to as “Riot Inc.,” describing it as an organized operation with various departments focused on activities like public relations and legal support.
He also pointed out the bail bond network that reportedly facilitates the return of repeat offenders to protest sites. According to GAI’s research, there’s evidence of collaboration across cities such as Portland, Seattle, and Chicago, specifically with paid transportation services that may recruit vulnerable individuals to partake in the protests.
Bruner further identified significant funding streams, including those from billionaire George Soros’s Open Society Foundations and the Tides Foundation, along with foreign benefactors like Swiss billionaire Hansjörg Wyss. He suggested that federal authorities could employ the RICO Act to disrupt these financial networks and to potentially revoke the tax-exempt status of nonprofits misusing their charitable donations.
He added that if investigative agencies find that these funds are supporting illegal activities, they could require organizations to provide financial transparency regarding their grants. This could lead to the cancellation of future grants if deemed necessary.
Moreover, this roundtable discussion came after President Trump ordered the deployment of the National Guard to Portland, a directive meant to reduce crime and illegal immigration, although a federal judge has temporarily restricted this action.
Antifa is characterized as a far-left extremist group that defines itself as anti-fascist. It has faced accusations of instigating violent riots, particularly during the 2020 protests calling to “defund the police,” and more recent incidents targeting federal immigration facilities.
