Exciting Changes at Radio City Music Hall
Radio City Music Hall is gearing up for a significant upgrade just in time for the holiday season. The iconic venue, which has been around for 92 years, will be installing a new audio system next month, aiming to enhance the overall sound experience, much like the technology found at the Sphere in Las Vegas.
As of November 6, with the kickoff of “The Christmas Spectacular,” the number of speakers in the theater will leap from around 100 to over 7,000 high-end units.
The current traditional stereo setup, where how close you are to the speakers can impact your experience, will be replaced by an advanced 3D spatial audio system. This change is designed to ensure that all attendees enjoy a consistent, immersive sound experience regardless of their seat location.
As stated by the company, it’s likened to “headphone-quality sound without headphones.”
Jessica Tuttle, Executive Vice President of MSG Entertainment, expressed excitement about the new technology, noting it will allow audiences to experience Christmas in a truly unique way, “transporting them to a holiday wonderland.”
Notably, similar to the Sphere, where no speakers are built into the seats, the new system will cause the seats to vibrate with deep bass, creating a 4D experience. Radio City, both inside and out, is already a beloved landmark.
This renovation, reminiscent of Las Vegas, is also taking place at the Beacon Theater on the Upper West Side, with plans for further expansions to other venues continuing even after “The Christmas Spectacular” wraps up.
Attendees can expect a customizable audio experience tailored to their specific needs for upcoming events.
In other exciting news, it was announced that “Les Misérables” will return to Radio City Music Hall for a special international arena tour. Producer Cameron Mackintosh revealed that the musical will perform “One Day More” during ten shows scheduled from July 23 to August 2, 2026. It’s worth noting that “Les Miz” hasn’t been staged in New York since 2016.
