Lions Coach Reacts to Report on Aidan Hutchinson

Dan Campbell, the head coach of the Lions, expressed strong disapproval regarding a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The report suggested that the Lions reached out to the NFL about concerns that opponents were targeting star defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, who recently returned from a serious leg injury.

During a weekly press conference, Campbell dismissed the claims as “bullish” and vehemently denied that the team had contacted the league. “That’s bullshit. That’s a fake report,” he said, emphasizing his disbelief. “I don’t know where that came from. Nobody from here would do that. It’s terrible.”

When further questioned, Campbell reflected, “It doesn’t matter if we’re doing it or others are. We’re aware and adjusting our play accordingly.”

Hutchinson, who suffered a broken tibia and fibula last season, is now back on the field for 2025. The controversy stems from Schefter’s comments on ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown leading into Detroit’s 38-30 win against the Ravens in Week 3.

Schefter noted several instances where players seemed to be targeting Hutchinson’s legs in games against the Packers and Bears. He remarked on Hutchinson’s recovery, saying, “Watching his performance in the first two games… it feels like opponents are being low on him, prompting the Lions to raise the issue with the league.” He even encouraged viewers to look back at the footage to see how the Packers approached Hutchinson.

He elaborated, saying these incidents were notable enough that the Lions wanted to ensure the league was aware of the patterns of play directed at Hutchinson. According to Schefter, a specific example involved Packers tight end John Fitzpatrick’s attempt to block Hutchinson, which targeted his knees.

In that game, the Packers handed the Lions a 27-13 defeat, marking Green Bay’s first loss of the season.

The Lions are set to face the Chiefs, who hold two wins and three losses, this Sunday night in Kansas City.
