Chris Cuomo Appears on ‘The Charlie Kirk Show’ and Shares His Biggest Fear About the Reaction to the Assassination

Reactions to the Assassination of Charlie Kirk

On Thursday, Chris Cuomo, a host for NewsNation, expressed his shock during “The Charlie Kirk Show” about the justifications some individuals were offering for the assassination of Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA (TPUSA).

Following the September 10th incident, some people took to social media platforms like Blue Sky to defend or even celebrate the act, which resulted in several job losses. Cuomo shared with host Andrew Corbett that it was disturbing to see reactions that began with condemnation of the murder but quickly shifted to justifying the assassination. He described this reaction as horrifying.

“What scared me the most after hearing about such a young man, with a wife and baby, being targeted was the phrase, ‘Yeah, but.’ That is truly alarming in moral discussions,” Cuomo stated. He emphasized that there simply shouldn’t be a “but” when it comes to the act of killing, adding, “If you want to critique Charlie’s ideas, great, but that doesn’t excuse what happened to him.”

Cuomo pointed out that while he and Kirk had differing views, they never resorted to personal attacks. He stressed that the reality of Kirk’s murder is a devastating loss that cannot be mitigated or justified.

Matthew Dowd, a former political analyst for MSNBC, suggested on “The Katie Tarr Report” following the shooting that Kirk’s controversial persona somehow led to the tragedy. “He has been one of the most divisive figures, promoting hate speech that targets specific groups. I believe that hateful thoughts produce hateful actions,” Dowd remarked.

MSNBC responded by firing Dowd the same day, labeling his comments as “inappropriate, insensitive, and unacceptable.”

On September 11th, SiriusXM’s Stephen A. Smith took aim at those who celebrated the assassination, expressing his outrage: “I don’t care about his political beliefs! What truly matters is that a man was shot in front of two children under five. He died at only 31, leaving his wife a widow and his children without a father simply because his ideas differed from others.”

He further criticized the online celebration of the assassination, saying, “Shame on you! Shame on you!”
