New York Attorney General Letitia James Charged with Fraud

Indictment of New York Attorney General Letitia James

A grand jury has indicted New York Attorney General Letitia James on fraud charges, just two weeks after former FBI Director James Comey faced similar issues. This information was confirmed by officials.

According to reports, James was indicted on one count in the Eastern District of Virginia as part of a mortgage fraud investigation. Details remain murky at this point since the case is sealed, making the specifics of what the grand jury considered unclear.

So far, Letitia James and her office have not provided any comments regarding the charges. However, she previously asserted that she “made a mistake” while filling out paperwork concerning a home purchase, but claimed she corrected it immediately and did not deceive the lender.

Earlier in September, James Comey was indicted for making false statements and obstructing justice. These charges arose after a shakeup in the Trump administration led to the replacement of U.S. Attorney Eric Siebert. A grand jury was then convened to issue an indictment before the statute of limitations lapsed.

Reports suggest that Comey’s charges are linked to testimony he provided during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in September 2020. In that session, he insisted he did not authorize leaks regarding the FBI’s investigation into Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, stating, “I stand by the testimony.”

Interestingly, an inspector general’s report from 2018 indicated that Comey’s aide, Andrew McCabe, claimed Comey did permit him to leak information to the media. Nonetheless, the report also suggested McCabe made several misleading statements.

Additionally, in July, the FBI initiated inquiries into both John Brennan, a former CIA Director, and James Comey concerning their involvement in the Trump-Russia collusion investigation.
