Katie Porter Faces Scrutiny Over Studio Complaints

A recently surfaced video features California’s Democratic gubernatorial candidate, Katie Porter, expressing frustration with the studio lighting during a Zoom call, marking the third controversial clip involving her in just a week.

This particular video dates back to 2021 and has gained traction on social media platforms. In the footage, Porter, who was a Congressman at the time, is seen discussing the harsh lighting just prior to a television interview.

“Oh yeah, this is why I didn’t want to do it. I need to turn off the lights and have bright lights,” she told a staff member nearby. “I’m really sorry, but I’m about to ride — Bernard, please turn these off… these are killing me.”

She briefly returned to the Zoom call, saying, “Hey everyone, hang on a second!”

During the call, someone in the background mentioned something, to which Porter replied, “Yes, yes, you should!” However, when the lights went off completely, her mood shifted noticeably.

“Okay, guys, I’m… not that dark of a person,” she commented.

Porter then appeared agitated, looking around the room before turning off her camera and microphone for about 20 seconds. When she reappeared, it was from another room.

In the video, she noted, “Alright, everyone. I’m sorry about this. I’m in a TV studio preparing to confront Mr. Cuomo,” explaining that the bright lights made it difficult to see herself or anyone else.

This resurfacing clip comes as Porter faces heightened scrutiny following two other viral videos from earlier in the week. One video shows her using harsh language towards a reporter and trying to end their conversation. Another, released by Politico, captures her angrily telling a crew member to “Get out of the f—— shot!” when they accidentally entered her set during a video call.

Katie Porter has yet to respond to requests for comment regarding these incidents.
