Garrett Wilson Remains Positive Despite Jets’ Struggles
HERTFORDSHIRE, England — Garrett Wilson has faced his share of disappointments during his time with the Jets, experiencing losses that often left him frustrated.
Yet, as the team stands at an 0-5 record, the fourth-year receiver is focusing on maintaining a positive outlook.
“I think I’m dealing with it as well as everyone else,” Wilson expressed during the Jets’ preparations for their upcoming game against the Broncos on Sunday. “It’s tough to invest so much effort and not see any victories yet. It’s hard not to win, especially considering the time and bonds we’ve built. But, honestly, we still have a lot ahead of us and much to prove.”
This season, Wilson has shown improvement in his game.
Leading the Jets, he has made 33 catches for 382 yards and four touchdowns, all while drawing targeted attention from opposing defenses.
Additionally, Wilson has taken on a leadership role within the Jets. For the first time, his teammates have named him captain, a position he embraces. He acknowledges the importance of being a positive influence in the locker room.
“Some might say that’s part of a captain’s duties,” he noted. “When my teammates voted me captain, it was a moment of realizing that they respect my work ethic and who I am.” He further mentioned, “You’ll still see my emotional side. I won’t claim that being captain means I have to change my behavior.”
Scoring in four of five games this season, Wilson has been a standout amid a challenging period for the Jets. His route running has improved significantly, making previously tough catches appear easier.
They’re utilizing him in various positions to create opportunities, and he feels more at ease playing in the slot than in prior seasons. “This is probably the second or third year where I’m asked to navigate more on defense from the slot, and I’ve grown more confident in my decisions,” he shared.
With 312 career catches, Wilson ranks 10th in Jets history.
“It’s incredible,” he remarked about reaching this milestone. “Down the line, I’m sure I’ll be telling my kids about it and using it as a way to impress them.”
