Senator Rick Scott Proposes Legislation to Rename a Street in Washington, DC, as ‘Charlie Kirk Patriot Way’

Senator Rick Scott (R-Fla.) has proposed a bill to name a stretch of H Street Northwest in Washington, D.C., as “Charlie Kirk Patriot Way.” If approved, this would mark the first street named in honor of the late Turning Point USA founder at a federal level, following a similar tribute in Florida.

The Charlie Kirk Patriot Way Act was introduced on Friday, with support from Senators Mike Lee (R-UT), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Bernie Moreno (R-OH), and Josh Hawley (R-MO). The legislation seeks to officially designate the section of H Street Northwest between Connecticut Avenue and Vermont Avenue as the “Charlie Kirk Patriot Way.” Moreover, four street signs displaying this name would be installed at key intersections along the area, including both sides of Connecticut Avenue, Vermont Avenue, and Northwest 16th Street.

This initiative follows Scott’s earlier success in a unanimous Senate vote that designated October 14, 2025—Kirk’s 32nd birthday—as Charlie Kirk Memorial Day. Approved on September 18, this resolution highlights Kirk’s commitment to “faith, free speech, and civic activism,” encouraging schools and communities to observe the day with activities promoting freedom and civil discourse.

In a statement regarding the new bill, Scott emphasized that the street naming serves as a tribute to Kirk’s lifelong efforts in fostering dialogue and civic participation. He expressed that the title would act as a reminder of Kirk’s resolve to “stand strong for what he believes in, peacefully, purposefully and proudly.”

Blackburn referred to Kirk as “a patriot with an unwavering dedication to promoting American values and free speech,” while Moreno reminisced about Kirk’s early vision to engage young people in politics—a vision that blossomed into a movement significantly impacting the nation.

The proposed naming adds to a rising trend of tributes to conservative figures, as Lake County, Florida, recently voted to rename a portion of Wellness Way as the Charlie Kirk Memorial Highway. This decision came as the first local government initiative to honor Kirk following the tragic incident during an event at Utah Valley University on September 10.

Across the country, further tributes are emerging. New College of Florida has announced that a statue of Kirk will be installed on campus, while Florida officials are exploring plans for additional memorials. Legislative proposals and resolutions have also been put forward, including initiatives for commemorative coins aimed at preserving Kirk’s legacy.
