Concerns Over U.S. Military Preparedness
As tensions rise with Beijing eyeing Taiwan and the U.S. continues to support Ukraine, many Americans are questioning whether the military is ready for a potential World War III. Unfortunately, the reality is more alarming than many realize.
In short: we’re not prepared.
Many believe that a nation deserves a military filled with warriors, not just bureaucrats. The time for excuses is long past.
The last three Democratic administrations have contributed to a gradual weakening of the military. For instance, Bill Clinton lowered fitness standards for women in combat roles. Barack Obama seemed to prioritize diversity and inclusion among military leaders, often at the expense of other values. Joe Biden advanced these trends further, with a focus on vaccination statuses, gender ideologies, and climate issues, making supply chains highly reliant on foreign—often Chinese—manufacturers.
This has led to a military that feels hollow, struggling to recruit, maintain operational readiness, and inspire confidence. Secretary of the Army Pete Hegseth has initiated efforts to address these issues, including reintroducing artillery practices and reinstating fitness standards while attempting to eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
However, the issues run deep. Real change cannot happen without a comprehensive reform of the system that produces our military officers. Without this, the crucial mission to revive a strong warrior spirit in the military will remain unfulfilled.
Declining Standards at Military Academies
As an alumnus of West Point, I recognize that the primary obligation of the Academy is to cultivate warrior leaders, with everything else being secondary. However, Superintendent Stephen Gilland seems to have prioritized racial quotas over this mission, leading to the introduction of seminars on “whiteness” that create division among cadets. There were also attempts to install a dean known for promoting disinformation agendas until the Trump administration intervened.
Such troubling trends aren’t limited to just one academy. The Merchant Marine Academy saw former Superintendent Joanna Nunan push anti-Christian agendas while promoting transgender ideologies, until she was removed from her position.
The situation is compounded by civilian educators in military academies. For example, at the Air Force Academy, nearly 200 professors seem more focused on advancing progressive agendas than on actual military education. Some have even mocked students in derogatory ways, while others have staunchly defended critical race theory, promoting an environment far removed from the military’s core values.
ROTC Under Marxist Influences
The path for future military leaders isn’t any clearer within the ROTC programs, which now echo these Marxist ideologies. Cadets are able to focus on complaint investigations at institutions like Wisconsin-Madison, leaving them ill-prepared for real combat situations. This certainly isn’t the kind of training needed to confront a power like China.
The military and naval universities have devolved into bureaucratic platforms for climate change and social justice advocacy. Their accreditors impose diversity mandates, even opposing Supreme Court rulings against race-based admissions. Left-leaning civilian educators dominate the discourse, instilling a chronic mistrust of leadership among future officers.
The issue with our military goes beyond merely physical readiness; it also encompasses the quality of our education.
This decline hasn’t occurred suddenly; it’s the result of a strategic infiltration by cultural Marxism that has steadily eroded American strength from the inside. From basic training to higher education, officers are increasingly absorbing ideologies rather than foundational military discipline. If a conflict arises, the ramifications of this ideological indoctrination will be dire.
Restoring the Warrior Spirit
Yet, there’s a glimmer of hope. For the first time in years, those on the political left seem to be on the defensive. President Trump has tasked the military with the critical objective of eradicating these ideologies and reigniting the spirit to fight. Across the nation, patriots are taking notice and stepping up.
A roadmap for recovery is emerging. The plan includes firing ideological officers, revising the National Defense Authorization Act, removing civilian educators from military academies, banning DEI initiatives, and safeguarding supply chains.
Congress must act decisively. The message is clear: fulfill your duty or step aside. America deserves a military led by true warriors, not mere administrators. The time for excuses has ended.
